Visitors here will learn the fascinating story of Madrid, from its rise as a boom town to its decline as a ghost town and resurgence as an arts center. The tour begins at the former train pit, with a 1901 769 Richmond Steam Engine train still sitting on the tracks as if it were heading into the train repair pit.

In the 1980s, the shed was converted into a lively theater, which hosted melodramas for some 25 years. The theater is now the entry point for the museum with a movie that chronicles Madrid’s unique story.

The museum is chock full of exhibits about life in this historic mining town, including digging and tunneling equipment, old shop fittings and hospital equipment as well as the famous Madrid Christmas celebrations, ballpark memorabilia, ghost town stories and more.
