LONE MOUNTAIN RANCH

In 1965, Chicago attorney Glen Lloyd and his wife, Marion Musser Lloyd started raising cattle at Lone Mountain Ranch, nestled between the Ortiz and San Pedro mountains. After Glen died in 1975, Marion continued to run Hereford, Angus, Charolais, Simmental and Brangus cow, calves and herds for some 20 years.

Since the mid-1990s, Robert and Mary Lloyd Estrin have run the ranch, with a herd of 325 Angus, until drought forced a thinning of the herd to 100. After their first taste of American Kobe beef, Bob and Mary decided to begin a breeding program. Today, the Lone Mountain Cattle Company runs a fullblood Wagyu breeding operation and aims to become a leading U.S. Wagyu producer.
